I had comfortable 4.5k ES when similar wanders in my guild/friend list had an only 3k life when we reached lower tier maps at the league start. You can reach higher eHP going ES, rather than life. Also, jewels with damage + ES are a lot, lot cheaper than similar jewels with life. Thunderfist, Rainbowstride, Crown of Eyes, 5L ES chest, rings with ES, are all much cheaper than life-based gear, especially early in the league.

Pros: - Damage on Full Life provides higher multiplier and better accuracy at long range then Slower Projectiles. Also, since ES is certainly not meta, ES based gear is extremely cheap within the League, so if you’re playing Standard, there’s some really overpowered gear you can purchase. Damagewise, I believe Occultist is capable of doing greater DPS then Pathfinder, Raider and Deadeye, because of using Damage on Full Existence jewel rather of Slower Projectiles, and skill to consider more damage nodes (because we have no need for that lots of ES nodes around the tree). While slightly missing when it comes to movement speed ( Pathfinder/Raider/Deadeye builds have 15% more movement speed), the simplicity of gearing, high eHP values (easy 7–8.5k ES for more ES nodes and rare Regalia) and Profane Blossom explosions allow Occultist to become competitive. I have therefore made the decision to choose a Wander, utilizing Profane Blossom explosions, going CI for Damage on Full Existence goodness and far simpler time getting high levels of eHP, when compared with existence-based wanders. Erectile dysfunction/Blight is a nice decent starter for Occultist, however, I hate how clunky it’s.
